Sightmark Wraith HD – 5 Essentials To Buy After You Purchase.

You may be considering purchasing the Sightmark Wraith HD. Or you may have just purchased it.  Either way, once it’s bought you will need to buy 5 essential things to make the scope work.  When I first bought mine, I had no idea that I needed all this stuff.  Trust me when I tell you that getting these things will get you up and running fast.

The (Sightmark Wraith Essentials Package) is a group of items that I had to purchase for my Wraith night vision scope for it to run.  These items include things like batteries for the scope and the light, memory cards, chargers, and even a quick disconnect mount.  If you click the link above, it will take you to a page where you can buy all the items discussed in this post in one place.

  1. A Quick Disconnect Mount for the Sightmark Wraith

The Wraith comes with a plate type mount already on the scope used for mounting.  It uses 2 nuts to tighten it down to your picatinny rail.  If you want to take it on and off the rifle quickly and reinstall it without losing your position, it is recommended that you get the Quick Disconnect Mount and install it in place of the original plate.
This helps you switch rifles quicker and privides a better chance of you getting it back to the position it was sighted in at.  That will give you better accuracy in the long run.

  2. A Power Source for the Sightmark Wraith

When I first got my Wraith, I sighted it in and went on my first hunt.  That hunt didn’t last four hours and I was using AA batteries.  After I put my 3rd set of 4 AA batteries in, I decided it was time to find a better power source for the scope.

    A. Kentli Batteries.

Kentlis are a 3.7 volt battery that can be used as a AA battery.  They are specifically designed to do this!  The kit above comes with 4 batteries and a proprietary charger for charging.  Those batteries will power my scope for 5 plus hours on a single charge.  Last night I had Kentlis on a full charge go over 5 hours and not put a dent in the battery gauge on the scope.  They take just over 3 hours to charge and are absolutely worth it over AA batteries.

         B. Extended Battery Pack Hack

This batttery and parts is a method that I came up with as a result of having a bigger battery that was too heavy and bulky.  So I found the battery in the hack kit above.  Then I attached it with epoxy to a quick disconnect attachment for a picatinny rail.  Then I found usb cables that would work. Check out the video here on YouTube – Night Vision Scope Extended Battery Pack Hack
It will last over 6 hours and will attach to the rail on the scope or to a picatinny rail.
Choice A or B will greatly improve your scope run time so you can focus more on hunting.

  3.  Memory Card for the Sightmark Wraith

So the Wraith takes a micro memory card for recording video or taking pictures with the scope.  It should be a class 10 sdhc micro memory card. I personally video every shot.  Some of the footage I use for YouTube, but mainly being able to look back at your shots is huge in the field.  Knowing you hit an animal with the bullet will increase your confidence of looking for an animal after the shot, or help you decide to give up because you know you missed!  That is huge when you are out in the field.

  4. &5.  Rechargeable Batteries and a Charger for the Sightmark Wraith Illuminator.

So most night vision scope come with their own illuminator.  With the Wraith, if you are going to be hunting under 300 yards, the light provided does just fine.  If you are going to be hunting further distances you might want to check out this post I did (How to choose the be IR light for your scope).
The light provided takes 2 cr123 batteries. They last about 4 hours.  If you use those, you will continue to buy lots of them and pour a lot of money into the process.  Or you can just buy a set of 16650 rechargeable batteries and a smart charger.  There are not a whole lot of places that make them, but there are a few and they work awesome.
What I do is charge both of them and load one in the light and use it.  Then I bring the extra with me in case the first one runs out.  I don’t leave my light on the whole time I’m hunting, but I do leave my scope on.  I have never ran a battery down while hunting during 4-5 hour periods.

That wraps it up.  If you are buying or have already bought the Sightmark Wraith, you will need batteries to run the scope and the illuminator (at night).  You will need a memory card to take pics and record videos through the scope.  Plus if you are anything like me and want the option of using it on multiple weapons or even as a handheld, then you will want to get the quick disconnect mount for it.  I have taken all the guesswork out of what items you need and where to get them by putting together this link – Sightmark Wraith Essentials Package.

I hope your hunting is successful and that you enjoy your new Sightmark Wraith.  I know that I am enjoying mine!
