Predator Tactics Coyote Reaper XXL IR Light Review

Predator Tactics Coyote Reaper XXL IR light box

With night hunting becoming more popular across the country, and a new generation of night vision scopes becoming affordable and available to the public, the need for better aftermarket infrared lights has surfaced. This review is comprehensive look at the Predator Tactics Coyote Reaper XXL IR light.

So just to set this up, we started with an ATN X Sight 2 HD 5×20 and now we also have an ATN X Sight 4k 5×20. Both scopes came with stock infrared lights, and when tuned properly, can see 200 plus yards while in night vision mode. Straight out of the box, one can purchase one of these scopes and go have some good fun with night vision.

Currently, I am a member of 3 different night vision/ predator forums on Facebook. All 3 forums get asked the question: “What is the best aftermarket IR or infrared light for my scope?” The 3 most popular IR lights that always get talked about are: 1. Predator Tactics Coyote Reaper XXL IR light. 2.
Sniper Hog Light 66LRX IR light. 3.
Wicked Lights A67 IR. All 3 are comparable with minor differences. I don’t physically own numbers 2 or 3 so we will only be talking about the Coyote Reaper XXL IR.

As you can tell in the picture above, it is very neatly boxed. This light is 3 or 4 times bigger in size than the stock IR that comes with the scope. It is quite a bit heavier than the stock light as well. The XXL Reaper light takes a single 26650 rechargeable battery and comes with a charger. I also saw on predator tactics website that they sell a battery extension tube so that you could run 2 batteries for longer illumination periods. That could benefit some by adding extra run time, but would add the weight of the overall package.

Here’s what comes in the box:
* Predator Tactics Coyote Reaper XXL IR light
* 1 – 26650 rechargeable lithium ion battery, 3.7V, 4500mAh
* 26650 battery charger
* Quick on/off pressure pad
* Simple picatinny rail mount
* Rubber protection tube to go over the end of the light

Coyote Reaper XXL IR compared to ATN stock IR light

Overall, this light is nothing short of AMAZING! It blows away the original stock light that came with my scope. Some people may complain about having to spend extra money for an IR light after spending so much for a scope. I look at it like this; You can go buy a brand new 4×4 at a dealership. It will do ok off road if you leave it stock. If you throw a lift on and some bigger mud tires, it will do considerably better off road. The same goes for this scenario. Adding this light to your scope will take you to the next level with your distances and even your zoom at night. It is that much better.

About the only thing I didn’t like about the Coyote Reaper XXL IR light was the mount that came with it and adjusting it by yourself. I found this to be very difficult to do by myself even with my weapon fixed to a tripod. I did recommend getting the Predator Tactics Windage Elevation Adjustable Rail Mount. This mount will let you install the light on your rail and aim it to the middle of your field of view with ease. I was able to get the light aimed somewhat in the middle of my field of view with the original mount that came with it, but it wasn’t perfect, and again it was very hard to do.  But the the adjustable windage mount is too floppy.  So I went back tot eh original mount.

Coyote Reaper XXL IR light wit ATN X Sight 4k 5×20. Tree line is 385 yards.

Once the light was aimed right, I was able to see 600 plus yards in the dark with this light. With the stock light that came with my scope, I could see about 250 yds. Also, I could not use my zoom on the scope at all with the stock light at night. It got pixelated really fast because there was not enough light. The Coyote Reaper XXL IR light throws off so much light that you can use your zoom and it actually looks good.
Here is a video I took showing the difference between the stock IR light and the Coyote Reaper XXL IR light.

So if you have a digital night vision scope and haven’t upgraded your IR light yet, I hope this review helps shed some light on how much better your scope can see at night with a decent IR light. Adding a light like this to your arsenal will definitely help you see farther, better and hopefully help you get more predators down.
